Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy

Skulduggery is a person or rather a skeleton that was a person who also happens to be a detective that can use magic.  Enter Stephanie Edgley, a girl who wants to avenge her uncle’s death and go on exciting adventures.  Soon the unlikely pair is racing across Ireland fighting evil and looking for a scepter that may only be a myth.  This is a true good vs evil type of book with a large dollop of wit and humor.

I quite enjoyed it and think it will be the first in a series, although I am not 100% certain.  It is a well crafted tale which reminds me of Ghost Rider meets Harry Dresden.  the action is fast paved and the story moves along, but also gives sufficient details to draw the reader into the myths and legends presented.  I look forward to the next book (if there is one).  My absolute favorite part is actually not part of the book at all, but rather the author’s bio on the back jacket flap.  You’ll have to read it to see what I mean.
