Armstrong’s new book is just as fabulous as the others.  Savannah Levine has been in the others books, but now she is 21 and working her first case.  She is just as feisty as she was in the other books, but it has now been tempered by her year’s with Paige and Lucas.  She is recruited by a friend of Lucas’s to help with a murder case.  She travels to Columbus to work the case and finds out that there is a lot of weirdness going on in the town.  But Savannah is up to the challenge.  However, things quickly turn out to be more complicated than Savannah can handle.  Luckily, Adam comes to help her out.  But soon things go to hell in a hand basket.  And Savannah starts to wonder if she brings chaos and pain wherever she goes.  The book ends with Savannah very much at a crossroads.

A story reminiscent of The Red Tent, Pearl in the Sand tells the tale of Rahab, a whore who transforms into a holy woman during the time of Moses.  Sold into prostitution by her father so her family can eat, Rahab has lived a life of sin for 10 years, but when she hears of God she decides to repent and see if she can join the Israelites.  A love story between a man and woman and also between a woman and God.  It is a well told story of historical fiction that is only a little preachy.  Overall a good read.
