I sometimes wonder if the cover artist even reads the book. Penelope Ashfrod, the leading lady in the book wears frillless clothing in darker colors. And why a rose? No correlation to the story. Anyway, it is a good story as Laurens usually are. THis is an offshoot of the Cynster novels, as Penelope is the sister of Portia Cynster. This is her story though and the Cynster cla do not really figure into it. Her leading man is Barnaby Adair, a gentleman with a passion for solving crimes. He has been very successful, but is at loose ends until Penelope comes to tell him of four boys that were supposed to come to her orphanage were kidnapped. Adair enlists the aid of Basil Stokes of Scotland Yard, they are soon on the trail of the kidnappers. This is a great mystery that really leaves you guessing. The two main characters are very witty and funny which make it a great read. The romance is sweet as well. (Do I need to say that since it is a romance obviously all ends well with the boys, etc?)
