I was scared. Who wouldn’t be? I picked up the ARC for the new Stephenie Meyer book and it doesn’t have Bella or Edward in it. Can she really write or was it just a lucky break? And what a departure. The Host is touted as pore science fiction. I mean who does she think she is to try and write cross genre? Well, it turns out she is a truly amazing author. She can do sci-fi and not just do it, but do it well. The Host was admittedly a bit slow to start off, but once you got into it you are in for the long haul and can’t put the book down til you’re done. It reminded me of Puppet Masters by Heinlein (how do you pronounce his name?????). The souls took over earth in order to make it peaceful. They act as symbiotic beings in a sense. They are implanted into humans and take over their consciousness. One day, a soul is planted, but the person inside doesn’t leave. And so begins The Host. As usual, Meyer does a great job with characterization and relationships. This is a chilling look at a seemingly benign alien invasion told from the point of view of both alien and human. It was very well done, and, I am happy to say, will make the wait til August 3 more bearable. Now I guess I’ll have to start wishing for her to write faster.
ummmm yeah. i dont think i can bring myself to read something by stehenie meyer that doesnt have at least one sexy vampire in it. i mean im sure its a great book and all but it might possibly scar me for life. im not takin the chance, because to tell you the truth im too hopelessly addicted to the twilight series and reading anything else would be physically painfull.
okay, well maybe im exaggerating just a tiny bit but come on! what could possibly top Twilight!?!?! Thats right….nothing.lol
[...] Books4Ever reviews Host by Stephenie Meyer. And so does Cate. [...]
I’m reading this at the moment! I’m in Australia and it came out last Friday I think?
I was a bit hesitant about reading a book with vampires, but now I’ve started it I can’t put it down! But of course, Twilight is still my favourite of all time
I’m so glad you posted this. I’ve had serious trepiditions about reading The Host because I was afraid that Meyer just wouldn’t make the cut outside of the Twilight Series.
Now? I don’t feel so scared!
I finished The Host last night…and I was just as scared as the next person. I ABSOLUTELY loved! The Host… It was pretty amazing. It had to be my second favorite book in the world, or maybe it is a tie for first.(GASP! I know) When I first started reading the first few chapters it was a little confusing, but after they started explaining I couldn’t …put …it …down. It’s more action packed than Twilight, and the male characters..phew.
Read it everyone! You won’t be disappointed at all.
This is an amazing book! Stephenie’s Characters are so real and complex. She is an amazing writer.
Host is amazing, i litterly couldnt put it down and finished in two days (due to my insomniac-ness)lol
