Set 100 years in the future, the story tells the tale of a girl named Anna who is a Surplus. About 60 years ago, drugs that would make people live forever were developed. Everyone started taking them and soon their was “The Declaration” which said that if someone wanted a child they would have to Opt out of the drugs. A life for a life because resources were scarce. Anna’s parents had her anyway and she is taken to Grange Hall to be turned into something useful that will help society. Enter Peter who shakes up Anna’s world and shows her there is more to life than being a dutiful Surplus.
I enjoyed this book, but was reminded of the Haddix series starting with “Among the Hidden.” That being said, it was a well crafted and interesting tale that I would definitely recommend to people.
i think the book was well crafted and very interesting but it was hard to understand the way it was set in the future. I would definately recommand this to people.
I read the book a few days earlier and I think it’s one of the greatest books I’ve ever read in my entire life.
It made my heart skip several beats due to my excitement.
You can never guess what happens next in The Declaaration!
Gemma Malled did a great job writing this book and making it as realistic as possible. It’s a mixture of romance and action which is exactly the kind of thing I’d go for. Many of my friends borrowed the book from me and each one of the thinks it’s the coolest book they’ve ever read, and I think s too.
I highly recommend it for everyone
